  1. ENERGY STAR Recognizes Eastman for Energy Efficiency

    September 16, 2014 | 0 comments

For the third year in a row, Eastman Chemical Company (Vista Window Film’s parent company) has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year. (more…)

  2. GSA Puts Green Building Materials to the Test

    September 9, 2014 | 0 comments

To meet sustainability goals and move toward net zero energy buildings, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) implemented its Green Proving Ground program in 2012 to test new green building technology during its pre- or early-commercial stage.

Because working with unproven commercial products can be risky for commercial building owners and managers, the Green Proving Ground program tests new technologies first in its own U.S. GSA buildings to help commercial facilities professionals gauge which new solutions might work well in their own buildings. (more…)

  3. Success Stories: Battle of the Buildings

    September 2, 2014 | 0 comments

Earlier this year, the ENERGY STAR National Building Competition – Battle of the Buildings – encouraged teams from more than 3,000 commercial buildings across all 50 states to compete for the greatest increase in energy efficiency.

All in all, National Building Competition participants saved more than $20 million in utility bills by reducing total energy usage by more than 900 million kBtus. Nearly 50 buildings demonstrated energy-use reductions of 20% or greater in one year. Here are a few of their success stories … (more…)

  4. Cool Roofs vs. Garden Roofs

    August 26, 2014 | 0 comments

Garden roofs and cool roof systems both offer energy-saving advantages over traditional black roofs, which may absorb heat and contribute to high HVAC loads and energy use.

Installing a cool roof or garden roof may decrease roof temperature and building cooling loads. As a result, the lifecycle of your building’s rooftop and HVAC equipment may be prolonged. Both roof types offer points toward LEED certification as well. (more…)

  5. Big Data Analytics & Green Buildings

    June 17, 2014 | 0 comments

You’ve probably heard the term “big data,” or been involved in conversations about big data analytics. These phrases are becoming popular ways to describe the growth and accessibility of structured (easily searchable, highly organized) and unstructured (text-heavy, not easily searchable) data. (more…)

  6. The Impacts of Weather on Energy Efficiency

    June 3, 2014 | 0 comments

The issues of climate change and global warming as they relate to energy efficiency have long been topics of debate. But according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s U.S. Energy Sector Vulnerabilities to Climate Change and Extreme Weather report, changes in weather and climate are already impacting the energy sector across the country. This interactive map, put together by the U.S. Department of Energy, shows the affects of increasing temperatures, decreasing water availability, and increasing intensity and frequency of storms and flooding in the last decade.

  7. Ways to Save Energy by Saving Water

    May 27, 2014 | 2 comments

Did you know that water and energy usage in commercial buildings go hand in hand? It may not seem obvious, but you actually can save money on your energy bills by reducing how much municipally supplied water your commercial building uses. (more…)

  8. Adopt-A-Watt Helps Public Buildings with Energy Conservation

    May 13, 2014 | 0 comments

A new and innovative way to finance energy-efficiency upgrades is now available for public institutions that don’t have the funds available to implement energy conservation measures. (more…)

  9. Eastman Wins Big in ENERGY STAR Competition

    May 6, 2014 | 0 comments

We like to offer helpful information to our blog readers about green commercial buildings, energy management, and programs like ENERGY STAR that protect the environment through superior energy-efficiency measures.

But we also heed our own advice: Here at Eastman Chemical Company (parent company of Vista Window Film), we take green buildings seriously; we make energy-efficiency improvements that lower the environmental impact of our facilities. (more…)

  10. Think About Window Film First

    April 15, 2014 | 4 comments

Because of the benefits it offers to commercial buildings, energy-efficient window film is one of the first green investments you may want to consider – before HVAC upgrades, lighting retrofits, or new windows. The right window film can help your building save energy and reduce demand, but it may also extend the life of your facility’s furniture and furnishings, lengthen HVAC system lifecycle, reduce heating and cooling loads, improve interior comfort, and reduce the amount of artificial light needed. (more…)
